May 2019 Balboa Beyond the Basics & Lindy Hop Beyond the Basics with SwingColumbus
Join SwingColumbus for their May monthly lesson series! This 4-week lesson series is held THURSDAYS in May 2019: 2, 9, 16, 23. No partner required! We will rotate during the lesson so everyone can practice. SwingColumbus strongly encourages their students to attend all lessons, as there will be no make-up classes or refunds for classes missed.
You must attend the first class to join the entire series.
Beyond the Basics Balboa: 6:45 – 7:45 PM
This 4 week progressive course continues exploring the fabulous swing dance of Balboa with Lisa and Eric. This is a fast-paced dance, danced in close proximity with a partner and emphasis on footwork rhythms and patterns.
No partner required! We are friendly social group and will rotate partners in class.
This class series is designed for dancers who are familiar with the Balboa basic and come around. Talk to an organizer if you aren’t familiar with these movements but want to take the course. No partner is required in order to take this class.
Beyond the Basics Lindy Hop: 8:00 – 9:00 PM
This progressive course will take the basic moves from Lindy Hop and add some variations. This class series will give you some transitions and enable to link the swing-out to other moves within the Lindy Hop genre. SwingColumbus will prepare you to dance socially with swing dancers from Columbus and around the world. No partner required! We are friendly social group and will rotate partners in class.
This class series is designed for dancers who have taken at least 2 Lindy Hop series classes with SwingColumbus.
SwingColumbus strongly encourages their students to attend all lessons, as there will be no make-up classes or refunds for classes missed.

Whether you’ve been coming to the March lessons or have some prior dance experience, Beyond the Basics aims to provide valuable knowledge and encourage exploration beyond the class itself. This 4-week series expands on the basic Lindy Hop fundamentals, while providing structure to facilitate “in the moment” reaction and expression with your partner. This class series will prepare you to dance socially with swing dancers from Columbus and around the world.
This class series is designed for dancers who have taken Introduction to Lindy Hop or have a good basic understanding of the rhythms and mechanics of the dance. No partner required! We are friendly social group and will rotate partners in class.
Introduction to Balboa: 8:00 – 9:00 PM
If you seek another way to connect, dancing to faster music, or expanding your dance vocabulary, this is a prime opportunity! Balboa in its pure form is an intrinsically simple dance, but as the dance evolved in the context of swing it became a vibrant combination of steps, turns, variations—widely known as Bal-Swing. All forms of Balboa can be danced at a wide variety of tempos, and in combination with other dance styles. Come to refresh your dance journey!
It is recommended you have some familiarity with dancing in time while connected with a partner, before taking this class, but all levels are welcome. This progressive series will prepare you to dance socially with swing dancers everywhere. No partner required! We are friendly social group and will rotate partners in class.

Charleston blends with many styles of Jitterbug and Lindy Hop and great to know for faster songs with higher tempos. This class series will prepare you to dance socially with swing dancers from Columbus and around the world.
This class series is designed for dancers who are comfortable with Charleston basics or have taken at least one Charleston progressive course.

This progressive course introduces the fabulous swing dance called Lindy Hop. This class series will prepare you to dance socially with swing dancers from Columbus and around the world. No partner required! We are friendly social group and will rotate partners in class.
This class series is designed for dancers who have taken less than 4 Lindy Hop series classes with SwingColumbus. Or, for those who want to refine their fundamentals, this is also a great time to refresh some concepts that make Lindy Hop work and get some practical experience!

January 31: Learn Tandem Charleston with SwingColumbus
Join SwingColumbus for their one night only crash course in partnered Tandem Charleston! No partner required, but bring your friends so we have a full class!
Tandem Charleston is also sometimes called “front-to-back Charleston.” It is one of the most recognizable moves in the Charleston dance repertoire and has some really fun variations you can play with!
Prior experience with 1930’s Charleston desired. The Tandem Charleston is built on top of the 1930’s style Charleston basic. See below for an example from Uptown Swing, a great group of dancers and instructors in Minneapolis, MN.
Come learn an iconic part of Lindy-hop Charleston vocabulary!
