October 2017 Intro to Lindy Hop & 20’s Style Charleston with SwingColumbus

Join SwingColumbus for their October monthly lesson series! These 4-week lesson series are held THURSDAYS in October 2017. No partner required! We will rotate during the lesson so everyone can practice.

SwingColumbus strongly encourages their students to attend all lessons, as there will be no make-up classes or refunds for classes missed.

You must attend the first class to join the entire series.

Intro to Lindy Hop Series: 6:45 – 7:45 PM
This class is designed for dancers who have taken less than 4 Lindy Hop classes, or have never taken a class with SwingColumbus. Lindy Hop is the vintage swing dance of the 1940’s, and now is your chance to learn it from scratch. You will start with the fundamentals and learn everything you need to know to start lindy hopping! No experience necessary and no partner necessary! You will learn several of the basic moves, the Swingout, the Lindy circle, with some variations in the later weeks.

Many people take the Beginning Lindy Hop session several times, to build confidence with the 8-count basics.

20’s Style Charleston Series: 8:00 – 9:00 PM
The famous flapper of the 1920’s danced the Charleston. You can dance it too with Viktor and Reyna! This is a great dance for older, faster music and a great one to have in your pocket.

This is a social dancing class. No partner and no experience are required. However, students who are new to swing dance should be ready to be challenged.

This class is designed for dancers who have taken at least a few classes with SwingColumbus.

October 4 LIVE BAND! Joe Smith & the Spicy Pickles

Joe Smith & The Spicy Pickles (Denver, CO) is a nationally touring seven-piece band that is spreading their love for vintage jazz and swing. Supporting their new album ‘Gin & Moonlight’, Joe Smith & The Spicy Pickles will be touring the US during the fall of 2017.

The band fuses musical influences from the sounds of Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw with the showmanship of Louis Armstrong, Lucky Millinder, and Jimmy Lunceford.

Haven’t danced before? No Problem. A beginner East Coast Swing dance lesson is included in admission and will get you started to dance the rest of the night. No partner necessary.

8:00 – 11:00 PM : Dance to Joe Smith & the Spicy Pickles!

Be prepared to switch dance partners often! We’re a social dance club and the best way to work on your social dancing is to learn how to connect with different dancer styles and levels of experience.

Attire: Casual for DJ nights; Dressy Casual for live band nights. Closed toe shoes required. We suggest low-friction (fast) shoes with good support for the tiled floor.

Absolutely NO OUTSIDE food and drink.

Sept 17 SwingColumbus Summer Celebration!

Come to SwingColumbus’s annual Summer Celebration – a social event with tasty food and drinks, our very own swing dance related games, and plenty of time to hang out with your fellow dancers. If you missed our Summer celebration last year, you missed four teams giving all they had to win at our inventive SwingColumbus.

Meet your volunteer board members, learn what it means to purchase a membership, and join us in the SwingColumbus Olympics! We’ll challenge you with lawn games like Swing Amoeba Tag and Swing Dance Relay!

There will be a catered lunch at 1 PM. Please bring a snack or dessert to share!

Celebration will be held in the south shelter house at Thompson Park.
